Hirsutism is an excessive hair growth on the body, especially on undesired areas. This is a very discomforting esthetic problem and many women are suffering from. It refers to pigmented and thick hair which in early ages, before puberty, grows only on the eyelashes, eyebrows and scalp. In case of Hirsutism the hair appears in parts like inguinal region, legs, areola, chin and upper lip.
This condition can appear due to different factors. One of them is the hormonal factor. It can be caused as a result of menopause, polycystic ovaries, pituitary or adrenal gland and birth control pills.
Another factor is the genetic factor. This is more characteristic for people with Mediterranean origins.
During the menopause a mild hirsutism is normal because of the increase of androgens or male hormones and decrease of estrogen levels.

How to deal with excessive hair
Shaving is the quickest and cheapest way to eliminate the undesired hair. But try to avoid shaving some parts like the mustache area or the upper lip because shaving the hair to the skin levels will leave you with dark line which can be very unattractive for women. Shaving can be very easy solution for other parts of the body. You can also trim it with forceps.
If you have more hair on some specific areas like eyebrows or chin, you can remove the hairs with tweezers. There is a belief that for every hair that is plucked, nine new will grow, but this is not based on medical facts. So, plucking the hair is effective and easy way to deal with the hair overgrowth. Negative side of pulling the hairs out is that the skin can become little bit red and irritated and it can hurt a little. The hairs will reappear in 4 to 13 weeks.
Another way to deal with the hairs is to bleach them in order to make them less visible. This one is the most practiced method for treating facial hair. For this method you need to mix the bleaching powder with cream in order to activate its bleaching agents.
Make sure to use fresh bleaching powder because after some time it loses the bleaching power. If you have dark facial hair the method may not be 100 % effective the first try. By repeating the method you will make them less visible.
Another very popular technique for eliminating the unwanted facial hairs is to wax them with epilating wax. Waxing is not recommended because it can damage the skin. If you are waxing the hairs it`s better to use stripes of wax which can be find in any pharmacy.
Here is what you need to do before waxing the hairs. Before waxing, shower with hot water. Don’t use soap and moisturizer after the shower because it reduces the effectiveness and makes the process even harder. Apply talcum on the area that you are about to wax, like armpits or legs. This will allow the wax to adhere to the hairs better. Always read the instructions. Make sure to place the stripes in the right direction, in the direction of the hair growth.
Place the strip and rub it with the hand for couple of minutes, so the wax can stuck even better. Pull it in the opposite direction of the growth of the hairs. The wax lasts about 10 minutes before it gets hard. After the waxing, apply vitamin E capsules to sooth the skin and the pain. Also, for the pain, you can use cold compresses for 10 – 15 minutes.
If you notice abnormal hair growth or appearance of thick and dark hairs on different areas of the body like cheeks, chest, chin, upper lip or if you notice thicker voice, irregular menstrual cycle, acne, fertility problems or muscle enlargements consult your doctor.
