The health benefits of both fruits and vegetables are plenty. They contain high amounts of very important nutrients that can boost the levels of energy and improve the overall health.
We all have noticed that the fruits that we buy have some stickers on. We don’t even pay attention on them, although they are there for a reason.
These stickers or labels contain PLU code or number containing important information. The code actually shows if the fruits are organic or GMO and if chemicals were used for the growth. Learning what this code means and how to read it is very important because it is the only way to know if the fruits or vegetables are harmful or not.
If the PLU code on the label starts with 3 or 4 it means that herbicides and pesticides were used for the growth of the fruits. The type of the fruit is indicated by the last 4 numbers, for example 4011 are bananas. If the code has only 5 numbers in total and begins with 8 it means that the fruit is GMO product and you should avoid it. If the PLU code has 5 numbers in total and begins with 9 it means that the fruit is organic and safe for consumption.
The Environmental Working Group or EWG tested the effects of the pesticides on the health and discovered shocking results. Pesticides can cause cancer, nerve damage and birth defects. Since the children`s system is not completely developed yet, they are the most affected by the pesticide residue on the fruits and vegetables.

The tests conducted by EWG show that 97 % of the nectarines, 98 % of the peaches and 99 % of the apples contain 1 pesticide, at least. The highest amounts of pesticide residue have been found on white potatoes, 5 times more tat any other product.
