Dental implants are maybe the best and only option for filling the gaps in the teeth and they are used worldwide and have saved millions of lives. The dental implants are components that are surgically connected to the jaw so they can support the dental prosthesis such as: crown, denture, bridge etc. This process is known as osseointegration.
Luckily, a group of enthusiastic scientists from the Columbia University, led by Dr. Jeremy Mao, have found new and completely noninvasive method that will make the implants and surgeries things from the past. This technique will allow the body to regrow the teeth by itself in only 9 weeks.
In the future this discovery will replace the painful dentures, crowns and bridges. These scientists have successfully built a scaffold for teeth. This scaffold is made entirely of stem cells and by using DNA stimulates the growth of new teeth. This new technique is amazing. It allows the body to grow new teeth in just 9 weeks and most importantly it`s not invasive as surgery.
According to Dr. Jeremy Mao the body`s stem cells are replacing the missing tooth and the tooth starts to merge on its own with the surrounding tissue. This way the regeneration process is stimulated and as a result new tooth starts to grow in just 9 weeks. This procedure is still in a phase of tests and researches and it`s still not available for the public. According to Dr. Jeremy Mao this technique will see the light of day very soon.
